Cast Iron Sculpture

Cast Iron Sculpture

25-Sep-06

by Alex Caldwell

Several years ago I had an opportunity to purchase some salvaged materials from a 100+ year old cypress column and beam warehouse. The warehouse was located on the banks of the Mississippi River in downtown New Orleans, just a few blocks from Canal Street. The cypress beams were put to good use on another project but I was left with a very large group of beautiful cast iron structural members.
I have hoarded these pieces for many years with the idea of a sculpture tucked in my head. Last week I brought my dream to fruition. I present to you my Cast Iron Sculpture. It is about eight feet tall, ten feet wide and weighs about three tons!
The Sculpture is located on the front lawn of our estate, and can be viewed from both the Gallery and the Studio. By the way, our facilities are open daily by appointment; drop by if you are ever in Cajun Country; view our extensive Gallery and watch the artisans at work in the Studio. I will personally guide you.

I called B&N yesterday to check on their Christmas Ornament Gift Book delivery. They told me that my consignment of the Gift Books should be shipped by September 30 and I should have them by the next week.
With that good news I posted a special deal for the Book. Buy a VA Silver Ornament and receive a free, autographed book, by yours truly, with your shipment, or when they come in.

We finished installing on the web site four of our new couture evening purses today. Yours truly is holding the latest one. We are getting rave reviews from the people that have had an opportunity to hold and wear them. Someone remarked that this line of purses is very classic and will never go out of style. She said her Judith Leiber purse doesn't stand a chance. Give them a look!

I added our 2006 Silver/Enamel Christmas Ornament. With the first day of September, our holiday season begins, and the crew and I are clearing the decks for action. Can you believe we received an order for a very large fine sterling and enamel ornament last week, $1,000! It is turning out to be a beauty.

Today, August 17, 2006, the new Vivian Alexander web site was launched. We plan on having an ongoing conversation in this blog, to keep you up to date on new sculpture and product, but most importantly we are looking to you to give us guidance about this new site.
What do you like, what don't you like? What would you change, what would you add? What new products would you like to see, what new designs would you like to see?
Your comments will be posted here for all to see, unless you tell me otherwise.
