Imperial Danish Palace Egg

$0.00

The Imperial Danish Palace Egg is one  of three Imperial Faberge eggs owned by Matilda Gray. Her entire Faberge collection was one of the largest in the United  States. The New Orleans Museum of Art created a special room to house the collection until Katrina forced the family to move to higher ground! The collection is now on permanent display in the New York Metropolitan Museum.

Alexander first saw the collection in NOMA in 1991, and created his first Faberge Imperial Egg replicas soon after. These three egg designs were made as a limited edition, and very few of them were made and fewer now exist. The making of these three pieces was the inspiration for Alexander to develop his unique enameling process. The first iterations were of such poor quality that they were promptly trashed. He quickly learned why the jewelry experts in Providence R.I. told him that it was impossible to apply epoxy enamel on a double curved surface!
