The Met Egg
Sometimes we create special pieces that absolutely beg for attention and steal our hearts. The Met Minaudiére is definitely one of these.
The piece was inspired by the theme of this year's Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala fundraiser: Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination; designer fashion inspired by religious iconography. A lofty theme, indeed. Our minaudiére incorporates elements from Byzantium to the Renaissance to Papal vestments throughout the ages. Think Papal tiaras, golden orbs and chalices covered with precious jewels. Images of ecclesiastical ceremony and ritual, pageantry and royalty certainly come to mind. Could it be that this was owned by one of the Medici? Possibilities abound.
Unlike any of our hundreds of other creations, this one stands alone, festooned with abundant decoration and symbolism and an undeniable other-worldy charm.
